Description: The purpose of this session will be to share best practice techniques that some of the Board Executives have already developed for reaching out to hospitals to remind them of their obligation to file timely "adverse action" reports required under both Federal and State mandatory reporting laws, especially reports to the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB). Panelists will describe how they have gone about this outreach.

NPDB = National Practitioner Data Bank and HIPDB = Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank

Presenter:  Betsy Ranslow, Senior Associate for External Relations, Practitioner Data Banks Branch, Bureau of Health Professions, Health Resources and Services Administration, US Department of Health and Human Services

Description: A presentation about the Proactive Disclosure Service - its implications for reporting in a timely manner.  In addition, Section 1921 will be described and discussed - how it amends the NPDB. Finally, new initiatives with the Data Banks will be reviewed.


11:00 am – 12:00 Noon  State of the States Roundtable Discussion 

Description: The Roundtable is an information exchange where Board Executives discuss operational issues.  This session also provides an opportunity for each state to provide a brief report on projects, rules/regulations and legislation affecting their Boards.  During this session, feel free to ask fellow Board Executives questions on how best to approach a problem facing your Board.
