National Organization for State Medical & Osteopathic Board Executives

Abstract of the Program

Administrators In Medicine, in partnership with the Federation of State Medical Boards, has designed a state medical board investigator certification program that will provide comprehensive, subject specific education and training for state medical board investigators.  The goal of the program is to provide a resource to boards that would give specialized training to individuals who are in the position of investigating complaints received by medical boards.

There are an estimated 500 individuals in the nation who are employed in the capacity of state medical board investigators.  These individuals, tasked with a highly specialized area of investigation, present the potential client base for this program.   AIM proposes to provide an educational opportunity for these individuals who are in this unique position.  The program is specifically intended for investigators who have basic investigation skills but who are new to the peculiarities of investigating physicians and to provide continuing education and certification for individuals with more advanced skills.

After completing the certification program, the candidate would be recognized as a medical board investigator with certified advanced skills.  In addition to providing advanced skills to investigative staff at each medical board, this program will create a “pool” of talent to assist in future recruiting by any medical board.   It will also provide a tool for the recognition of excellence in our boards’ investigative staff.

Program Development

The AIM-FSMB advanced three-day training program has been developed by a committee of experienced medical board investigators and a senior certified state medical board executive.  Their cumulative years of law enforcement experience and their experience with boards has given them a depth and breadth of knowledge that is nearly impossible to find.  They have created a program that will teach new material to some, and enhance and expand the experience and knowledge base of others.  This intensive program will be offered annually.
