Our speakers will lead an exploration of medical education today including international and U.S. models.  Distance education and online instruction will also be examined from the perspective of the LCME.  Are there significant differences between the education models and how do those differences impact those of us in the licensure of the global physician?

10:45 am – 11:45 am:  NCFMEA and ECFMG:  The Organizations Behind the Acronyms

Representatives from the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA) and the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) give an overview of the work of their respective organizations and how those organizations contribute to the recognition or licensure of international medical school graduates in the United States.

·       Presentation: Stephen S. Seeling, JD, Vice President for Operations, Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and Bill Kelly, Manager, Medical Education Credentials Department, ECFMG

AIM Business Meeting will begin at 12:15 pm and will focus on reports and the introduction of any matters that must be voted on by the membership.  Actual voting will occur during the 4:00 pm session of the business meeting.

1:15 pm – 2:30 pm:  The New York Model:  Conducting Medical School Evaluations On-Site

·       Presentation: Tom Monahan, Executive Secretary, New York State Board for Medicine, will explain the work of the New York Board’s on-site visit teams in evaluating international medical schools.

                        Introduction: Cynthia Weber Glynn, Deputy Director for Administration, New York Office of Professional Medical Conduct and AIM Eastern Region Representative

2:30 pm -2:45 pm:  Break 

2:45 pm:  MD/DO Degrees for Other Health Care Professionals; Advanced Placement

·       Presentation: John B. Crosby, J.D., Executive Director of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), will discuss the efforts of some ‘universities’ that are marketing their medical doctor degree programs to Doctors of Osteopathy and others. 

·      Presentation: Mark W. Stafford, J.D., General Counsel, Kansas Board of Healing Arts, will present the Kansas Board’s recent experience.
