Background: Administrators In Medicine (AIM), in a collaborative effort with the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), has designed a state medical board investigator certification program that will provide comprehensive, subject specific education and training for state medical board investigators.  The goal of the program is to provide a resource to boards that will give specialized training to individuals who are in the position of investigating complaints received by medical boards.  The program is specifically intended for investigators who have basic investigation skills but who are new to the peculiarities of investigating physicians while also providing continuing education and certification for individuals with more advanced skills.

The CMBI Committee is comprised of Leslie A. Gallant, CMBI Program Chair; Executive Administrator, Alaska State Medical Board; Past President of AIM; and current member of the FSMB Board of Directors; Doug Cooper, CMBI, Chief of Investigations, Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners; Curt Ellis, CMBI, Director of Investigations, North Carolina Medical Board; and Tom Hannah, CMBI, Chief Investigator, Florida Department of Health.

30 Investigators have achieved CMBI certification status so far; all attended the AIM and FSMB inaugural training seminar in Orlando, Florida on June 6-8, 2007.
